Tiramisu Parfait

Tiramisu Parfait

Tiramisu Parfait at Miz Helen's Country Cottage

I am very happy that you are coming along with Foods of The World on our trip to Italy. I am bringing a very special dessert for one of our stops.  Tiramisu is said to be one of Italy's most popular desserts and it is clearly one of my favorites. Once referred to as The Soup of The Duke, it is believed to have originated in Northern Italy in the Veneto area. The romantic city of Venice is the capital city of Veneto. This rich coffee flavored dessert is often served on special occasions in Italian homes and restaurants. Tiramisu means "pick me up", and should be savored with each bite of the layered creamy dessert.  On January 17, 2013 Tiramisu was declared the official dish of the 6th World Day of Italian Cuisine.

The original recipe for Tiramisu is layered with coffee soaked Savoiardi Biscuits with another layer of Mascarpone Cream, sometimes using raw eggs and topping the layers with cocoa powder. Some recipes will call for a mixture of wine or other liquors with the cheese mixture. My recipe has eliminated the raw eggs and is presented as a Parfait.
